I am a bartender at the Route 66 Casino outside Albuquerque. We have concerts there about every month or so, and sometimes the shows are pretty damn cool. I got paid to listen to Queensryche, for example. Sometimes, the opposite is true.
Tonight Andrew Dice Clay came in. I was moderately familiar with some of his standup before, and I knew he was more or less an insult comic. What I didn't know was that almost his entire routine is a thinly veiled attempt to make his own insecurities and immaturity seem funny. It failed.
I don't think I laughed once. Perhaps I'm not his target audience. I sincerely hope so, because his target audience is full of a bunch of homophobic, misogynistic, anti-intellectual douchebags. (OK, not entirely true. The people I served were not douchebags for the most part. But Andrew Dice Clay IS.)
I have never seen a less funny comedian. I was actually insulted several times- not directly, but more disgusted that people find that shit funny. Call me crazy but a joke based on hating to learn new things and refusing to accept technological, medical, and social advances is not funny to me. It's sad.
