I can understand that to an extent. If it was a case of him saying "I didn't like you, we butted heads, I wasn't feeling it over there, it was time for me to move on" et.al. then I agree - wipe the slate clean. But this was a case of him personally attacking the administrators' ethics and just about everyone who used to frequent NTL by association. And all this was done within the last year. If you listened to Dink go on, we used to have "fag-drags" every friday night by the bonfire.

Of course if he posts here people can treat him as they see fit. But in anticipation of any "Hiya Dink! Been so long and it's so nice to see you! Hugs! Oh man, if only that were possible with the guy. If I thought that had even a remote possibility of working, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Dink's a good guy. I know I'm earning some flak by saying that, but I've earned the same flak from the other side by saying the same of Stannis/Theo and others when I was talking to the other crowd. Everybody has their blind spots. Dink's been through a lot of shit in his life, and I think it's made him more reactionary than needs be; he's been known to find offense where none was intended, and go off like a rocket over it. The flipside of that is that he doesn't let people walk all over him, so there's some balance in the issue. It's my sincere hope that, if he made those comments in the spirit that Theo interpreted them -- and I only phrase it that way because I missed the entire mess -- that he regrets it. Or that it was another case of misunderstanding gone nuclear. God knows we do that enough.



While we're on this topic -- this thread got me thinking earlier today about how I haven't seen the word "fag" bandied about, not even in jest, among members of this community in a looooong time. That was a damned cool realization.

There's no doubt that Theo's stance on homosexuality has grown more accepting over the years. That's also been damned cool to see. There are some folks who claim that the words we hurl at each other through this medium don't really matter, but I'm figuring that so long as we're actually capable of opening one another's eyes to new points of view along the way, even if just in small increments, it matters a fair deal.

Actually, the accusation I made was if you were sitting around and talking about what all the mods thought of me, then they made a very poor choice in adding you and a few others to the mod list.
