It dawned on me as I am getting ready to go to GenCon that one of my major problems with going is that my the end of it, I am ready to murder every featbeard, grognard, manga look alike (especially shitty look alike) in the place. I love it on Wednesday and Thursday but by Friday and Saturday I want to mow down every gamer in the place like Tony Montoya at the end of Scarface (no spoilers, bitches).

As a result, I am just about certain that I will have a nice series of rants waiting for you upon my return, ready to shit them all out with such anger and bile that I suspect it will make for some entertaining viewing. Since Freedom Canadian is staying with us for a few days I will get him to throw in a sentence or two, as well.

Now, I reserve the right to NOT post any rants if, in fact, my blood pressure got so high that I actually managed to kick some asshole so hard his backfat ruptured and I and up in jail. I will have Freedom Canadian or Whilrigig take a letter and post it here for me.

Looking forward to it, dude! I'm supposed to be making a convention appearance in Toronto at the end of August... which is going to be a pain in the ass, since I haven't released anything in this last year.

I'll be looking for your venting with gleeful anticipation.

Considering your last one was very entertaining, I look forward to seeing what you put down when you get home. Oh and please do not end up in jail. That may ruin your fun time or at least take time away from your fun time.

Looking forward to it, you are going to take pics of the worst offenders aren't you ? I've never seen FC do a rant against anything.

I've been to Gen Con once and it just didn't do it for me. Tons of fat smelly people, dealers selling stuff I can get cheaper on the internet, publishers announcing stuff I don't care about (whoopdee fuck the Eve CCG? The MMO is boring enough, I play the "I fly around on auto pilot for 45 minutes while I'm alt tabbed out doing something interesting" card) and the thought of getting a role playing game with a group of people I have never met before, will never see again and who didn't bath them selfs on a regular basis before coming to Gen Con... no, not my thing.

Perhaps if I played some sort of game competitively, a CCG or a war game of some sort this would be the event of the year but I only play those games on a very casual level. So that doesn't draw me but I see where it would others.

So whats so wonderful about Gen Con? Fatbeards gaming? I have a non-fat beard gaming group. Board games? I get together once a month with some friends and have a board game night (Settlers, House on Haunted Hill, Arkham Horror, etc) Wargaming? For me it's every Wedenday night Warmachine at my LFNGS. Getting together with new people to talk about gaming? I'm on two very active gaming forums right now (not EN or RPGnet or CM).

Sorry to hijack your rant thread with my own mini rant. We need a support group or something.

I lived in Milwaukee when GenCon was still being held there, and when I first became aware of it I was curious about attending. However, on my way to work every day I drove past the Convention Center where GenCon was held. And saw the crowds mingling outside.

Oh. My. Lord.

It put me off D&D for years. It wasn't until I came back home to Memphis, and rediscovered my old gaming buds that I was able to reconcile myself with D&D.

So, no. I've never attended GenCon and don't wish to.
