If you need it for face to face games, using your computer as a replacement for a battle mat, you could always use Interactive Dungeon (http://www.geocities.com/trainz_ca/ID/). It's free, so you can try it at no cost.

I was supposed to redo it with better graphics and options, but I'm programmers-less. I also took a good look at what's out there, and it is simply much better than anything I could put together with my limited ressources. I basically decided to drop any further work on it.

In any case, I'm not DMing 4th Ed at the moment, Freedom Canadian will be my DM, and he uses a battle mat and minis, so I don't worry about VTT 'ware for now.

When it's my turn behind the screen, I might buy some VTT, but for my needs, everything I saw more or less worked. I was looking forward at using WotC's software, but since I don't use it online, there's NO WAY I'm going to pay MONTHLY for such a simple software. This is not WoW.

Yeah for the most part I want something can be used offline and displayed to a projector or t.v. to replace a battlemap.
Battleground has a nice feature that might work and for a one time price of $40 it isn't too bad (offline projector mode only need the GM license)

Big ass list http://www.forgedrpg.com/wwforum/printer_friendly_posts.asp?TID=643
I wish I could find reviews for all these. :(

Well I'll also be keeping a close watch on your thread. I hope we'll find something that works smooth, and in my case, free.

I tried OpenRPG, and DAMN it's complicated. I couldn't get it to work properly. It's a no-no for me. Fantasy Grounds looked really cool, but too expensive.

edit: Holy shit, your list has my 'ware listed! Nice....

I'm curious as well as I'm considering continuing to run my games when I eventually move to Texas.
