Remember when I showed off my kick ass desktop (http://www.kaytastrophe.com/vb/showthread.php?p=38080#post38080)?
Well, the laptop and the moneybox have disappeared. :what:
Last friday, in broad daylight, while my roommate and I were at work, individual(s) entered my flat from the balcony (we're on the first floor, but the balcony is just 4-5 feet high from the ground). The door was locked, but I learned from the police that this damn door is as secure as Windows. Damn you landlord! (the door was pretty new, something like a year old max).
So, several hundred CDs (all mine), two hundred DVDs, three desktop computers, two high-end point-and-shoot digital cameras, one 42in plasma TV.... are still there.
What the?
I guess I have to sigh in relief. They were only after laptops and money; such robberies have recently been very common in my neighbourhood. This sucks, this place is supposed to be pretty safe. At least I'm moving in a month... where it was supposed to be less safe (due to population density, no more). :boggle:
So they took my laptop, and my roommate lost 50 bucks he was keeping in a small bottle on his desk. Oh, and the morons also took from me a sizeable amount of African money bills.
That one I got to laugh. The notes show huge numbers, like 10 000 or 20 000, the total is probably over 500 000. They must have thought they hit the jackpot. But although the total amounts to 400 USD top, they are worthless on the continent. Nobody will exchange them for you (not even at the Paris airport, actually). I just WISH they are stupid enough to try and exchange them. They will be very easily identifiable, and they might get caught more easily, and then I might hit them with a baseball bat just because they are idiots.
Ever since I saw that movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111732/) at the end of high school, I've always thought about the time I'd be doing a thesis in the future, and how I would always keep backup copies of my thesis, because of what happened to the guy in that movie. So, thanks to you Branden Fraser, because I lost no data.
Now comes the insurance paperwork. You must all be so jealous!
