Finally the professor's wife sent me some of their digital pics.

The two drivers and our guide. My love is the middle one.

Cat in oldest mosque of Yemen, also the only mosque we were allowed to enter. The pillar is a sundial.

Cat in scarf, listening to music. Note the alcohol-free Becks, delicious on a hot day!

Cat also needs to learn traditional Yemeni dance... Notice the average length of the Yemeni male. Fortunately the love is quite tall (only several inches shorter than me...)

Chasing away evil spirits or something, by clashing swords and daggers over my head. Not nice!

The white dress... good job.

I don't want to assume the comparison is anything similar, but the red dress is striking in equatorial countries - SA and I have been to Sri Lanka, and the heat, the smells, the press of humanity, the sights, it is very intense. Yet white clothing - it still strikes an image - and turns heads. The other lady in red stands out as well, although it might be your photography. :)

The saint? Mohammed? Which rock?
Typical Sanaa cityscape.
Wow. That's actually very striking. I vote for more of these!

(not that yanno, marriage is less awesome than buildings.)

(It's all kind of buildings, right?).

Yeah, as long as I wear a mask I look alright...;)
The white dress... good job.
Psssst... the one in the white dress is my "husband":D My dress is actually a very light pink, with stains, it was the longest dress they had, but terribly tight around the chest, my breasts are flattened and I couldn't breathe...

The saint? Mohammed? Which rock?
Some Ismaili saint who is immensely popular especially among Pakistani and Indians. When going up I saw a sign posted in English and Hindi, no Arabic.

Wow. That's actually very striking. I vote for more of these!
I love those as well, these are the pics I got from the teacher's wife though, I didn't bring a digital camera so only have normal pics, and she only sent the one of Sanaa, as I had asked her for pics of tribesboy, which I did not have. I hope to provide more pics soon!

What I really like about Sanaani policy, is that new buildings have to fit in with the existing architecture. They should do that over here as well; if the poorest Arabic country can do it, why not us!?

Definitely looks like an interesting time. Awesome pics too...

I'm coming into this late, but why were you out there? You keep saying "husband" and such in quotes so I assume that's why you were there... but why the quotes?

Just woke up from a nap, I'm a little confused, hehe.

Seems cool tho, think last time I remember reading a post of yours you had gotten kinda messed up from being hit on your bike... This looks like a better turn of events, hehe.

Nah, she went there for study (http://www.kaytastrophe.com/vb/showthread.php?t=2672) (don't forget she's our internationally-acclaimed scholar in the Arabic languages) and just happened to fall in love with someone she met there. The quotes are because she almost, but not quite, got married (http://www.kaytastrophe.com/vb/showthread.php?t=2904).

Thank you, my personal stalker.:D You are quite correct.

Crit, I went to Yemen indeed to study, fell in love with the guy who features prominently in all the pictures, and the "husband" in quotes is because the party where I wear the horrible dress was organised in the hotel we were in to show us how a traditional Yemeni marriage went, and he and I were playing groom and bride. According to good Yemeni tradition I did not fall in love with him until after we got "married"...
