View Full Version : Scientology invades the web

This morning I have noticed a little something... there's a scientology add that I can see at many places I go to (Maniac World, YouTube...) and it leads to their website. It has a nifty intro video that starts indoctrinating you on the spot.
Why websites would allow these criminals to attract more sheep is beyond me.

The internet has ads? Oh yes, that's right, I have to endure them when I'm on the computers at school.

NoScript & Adblock+ FTW. :)
Only 17% of people have been shown the light, according to usage statistics.

I'm always weary about installing new resident software on my PC. I got a firewall, anti-virus, and other shit running in the background...
How invasive are these things?

And I'm not really complaining about ads on the web BTW, more about Scientology apparently recently got it's add everywhere with the apparent permission of many big sites.

They're addons for firefox. They're only on when you're browsing.

Well I can't find them anymore.
So basically it's probably a random add service websites subscribe to to get money, and scientology would have bought add space. Many must have complained because AFAICT, it didn't last a day.

Ah. I use IE.
I don't really mind generic adds. Not except in such a case that is...

It's kind of strange, though, never seeing banner ads, or any other ads. It makes the internet look very different when I use somebody else's computer.
Imagine how different TV would be without the ads? You get so used to them, you hardly notice them until they're gone. :)

See, that's the part *I* know.
If it wasn't for my kids, I would disable cable for TV. I NEVER watch TV. I have my TV hooked up to my PC, so I simply torrent all the shows I want to watch. I haven't regularly watched TV with adds in years now. Once a month maybe.

Seriously Trainz... switch to firefox.
Middle click to open new tabs, and to kill tabs.
Also, you get these awesome plugins.
You will never look back.
CoolIRis Preview... ftw!
This will be the web 10 years from now.
