In the realm of utterly brilliant video game ideas, it's rare for a game to be accepted on concept alone. That said, it's hard not to fall instantly in love with Blazing Lizard's newly-announced downloadble title, Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball. Blazing Lizard has revealed their intention to release this amazing game on a to-be-announced console in the first quarter of 2008.
Blazing Lizard is the brand new developer made up of ex-Volition devs that formed last week. Their previous experience includes such titles as Saint's Row, Red Faction, and more.
According to Blazing Lizard's press release, they are expecting to turn the Pirates vs. Ninja IP into a series of games, of which Dodgeball will be merely the first strike. Eight players will be able to meet up in multiplayer and choose from five different teams (pirates, ninjas, and three mystery groups). Unlike the normal dodgeball that we all know so well from elementary school gym class, Pirates vs. Ninja's will let players roam freely around six different arenas instead of containing them on opposing sides. Single-player wise, the game will have Exhibition, Story, and Challenge modes (including 4-player co-op) to keep gamers whipping balls at the CPU all night long.
Pirates vs. Ninja Dodgeball will also debut Blazing Lizard's new Infyrno game engine. Studio director Chris Stockman elaborated on the team's genius:
"What more needs to be said when it comes to Pirates vs. Ninjas. This is the ultimate in rivalries, and we aim to have them settle it with all out balls to the wall action."
Well-said indeed. Keep tossing your (eye)balls towards 1UP for more information on Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball as it smashes into our forehead.
