So does a 40 foot wide 25 foot tall JESUS in white letters on a green background make you feel holy?
Do you get a free trip to heaven if you live in the shadow of that billboard?
I'm just trying to get my mind around what makes someone want to do this and also what makes folks not find it silly and/or annoying.

The word Jesus in letters bigger than a house every 5 miles is a real challenge to understand.
I'm pretty sure Jesus himself would be mad as hell about it.

For many people, there's no such thing as quiet faith. For them, faith must be loudly proclaimed or it's seen as a personal failing.
Personally, I love driving down I-95 in North Carolina, where on one side of the road is a big billboard from some Baptist church, and on the other side is a billboard for a strip club. :D
They're just trying to get people to come to church (so they can tithe and buy the preacher a new car)

It's like a landing strip for the 2nd coming. You get extra points if Jesus lands in your backyard.

Every few days, I'm forced to drive by this...
Don't be fooled by the image. It's fucking huge. You can see it from I-40 for miles and miles.
They got those all over, but at least the ones I've seen are only 20' or so.

I live two miles down the road from there, but if I go to an open patch of field, near the interstate ramp, I can see it.
Now seems like a good time to share "touchdown jesus." Whenever I pass it, I have the sudden desire to make a huge paper-mache whistle and ref's cap.

That is horrifying.
I can't find it now, but I've seen a pic with three other guys doing the Ohio State "O" "H" "I" "O" on the side of the highway with that thing as the H.

my best friend fm highschool recently became a fundi. i dont remember her suffering a head injury but that is the ony explanation for the change that came over her. have any of you ever heard of the "left behind" book series?
and she suddenly believes that the dinosaur bones were put into the earth by god as a test of our faith. shes bonkers.
and shes not stupid: honor roll, college , traveled, very passionate and intelligent person--and then whomp--it was like the zombies ate her brains.
and the thing is, limper--they REALLY TRULY believe in this stuff-most of them believe in what they are spouting. it is sad

WHoooooooooo. I thought it was disgraceful when the administrators of our beautiful beacon hill park decided to construct the worlds second largest watering can inside the park. At least it's only visible when your 50-100 meters away from it (there's a bunch o trees obscuring it on one side). These things are eyesores and send a very negative message to non-christians living in the area. That is... if there are any non-christians living in the area.
