View Full Version : Teenage drivers (death of)
Thursday night at around 7:00 PM local two girls 16 and 15 died in a car wreck at a pocket community close to here, a police spokesperson estimated that the car was going in excess of 80 MPH when it crossed the centerline and struck a pole, neither girl was wearing a seatbelt. Massive blunt force trama was the cause of death according to the coroner, idiot parents more like it.
Ok so a policeman buddy told me that a cell phone was found that was "on" but they have no idea which girl was talking ( or texting) precedding the crash. The 16 y/o driver had just gottin her DL that Tuesday, her Birthday present was the 2000 Toyota she died in.
WHO in their right fucking minds thinks a 16 y/o girl has the knowledge or wisdom to operate a heavy vehicle, cause thats what a car at 1600 lbs is. Far as I know she didn't have drivers Ed, or any instruction other then a parent in it's operation. Yeah there safe teenage drivers but there's those that talk, fiddle with the radio and a hundred other things too. Not that some so called adults should be behind a wheel either.

when my daughter started driving, she was made to purchase her own vehicle--which i had to approve. she ended up with an elderly crown victoria--battleship grey. she had some fender benders--but she never ever was allowed to go w/o a seatbelt and she does not allow my grandbabies to be unbelted either.
and i think EVERYBODY should just hang up and drive
Keep hearing about the law about hands free telephones but it's not enforced .

blue tooth people are just as distracted. and what about dvd players and all that--and i have seen people on laptops while driving ( i commute abt 1hr each way so i see a lot of idiots and maniacs on highway) --and women who put on makeup while driving? and while i am working myself up to a mini rant here--i have seen adds in car mags for BLENDERS that you can plug into your lttle port in your car what the hell do you need a BLENDER for while driviing?
Margeritas ?? Saw a guy reading the paper other day, at 70 miles per

yup--seen em reading papers, magazines, books--flying down 75
or on the cellphone weaving all over the lane--then they honk at You for being too close. know several young people killed inaccidents while fiddling with cell phones, digital cameras, cd palyers---its especially scary when your own kid starts driving--you worry about what might happen to them, and then also what they might do to themselves or someone else.

Just 16 year old girls?
Please.
3 years ago one of our boys wrapped himself around a tree trying to impress a car full of girls. He died on impact.
I know in NY and NJ you must have drivers ed and 6 hours with a driving school in the car. Then you wait a year and practice with family, then you get your DL.
So what parent in their sane mind?
One that wants their kid to be able to get a job because increasingly "my parents will give me a ride" isnt cutting it with mall employers.
Should she have bought it? Who cares that isn't the point.

This is one of the reasons why I like the new laws in my area. Teens can not drive with other teens in the car until they've had their license for 6 months. And even after that they can't have them in the car with them after dark until they are 18.

I hear that if you use your cel phone while teleporting, every time you pick your nose, you sign up for another year with Verizon.

A graduated licence for any new driver is a good thing IMO.

My stepdaughter had two of her classmates die in a car accident this year. It was another kid driver that was involved. It looks like the girls were at fault for running a stop sign.

WTF?
Here in Sweden, you're not allowed to drive unsupervised until you:
are 18.
have passed a theoretical test (What does this road sign mean? In this picture, where are the potential dangers?)
have passed a practical driving test involving both city and country driving.Until you've done this, you're only allowed to "practice drive", which means driving with someone who is approved to serve as an instructor (not hard to be unless you have a record of incidents or haven't had your own license for long). When practicing, you also need to have a special sign on the back of your car.

Those requirements are the same in most US states with the exception of the age restriction.

It worked for me. Of course, I wasn't in any damned hurry to drive me mom's car so I could pick up chicks, either...
