Thank you, everyone. I am overwhelmed by the support and love I've received from you bunch of hooligans and scoundrels! :D

I'm still in full-time outpatient treatment, which basically means I get to come home and sleep in my own bed at night, but then it's back to the hospital for more treatment, bad food, and restricted smoke breaks. :mad: Then I come home, hug my kids tight and have wild monkey sex with Mr. Heretic, not at the same time, though. :tongue:

The new meds are taking time to adjust to but they're more on target this time. I also have a more accurate diagnosis -- schizoaffective disorder, meaning schizophrenic symptoms compounded by bipolar affective disorder. The progression from depression in my early teens to dysthymia in my late teens/twenties to bipolar in the late twenties and now schizoaffective makes sense in hindsight, although if my less-than competent quacks hadn't blown off the psychotic symptoms I probably could've gotten better help sooner. 'Visual hallucinations are probably a side effect of your antidepressant', my ass. :rolleyes:

But I'm unusually lucky in that I have a rock-solid support system: Deathe, my family, friends who'd walk through fire for us, and competent & aggressive treatment professionals. Most of the people I'm in treatment with have none of that, and it makes me aware of how fortunate I am.

So, I'm getting the help I need but it's a fucking kick in the gut to come to terms with this diagnosis. I probably shouldn't even be posting this stuff, but putting it in print and telling you guys means now I can't take it back and pretend I'm all fine. :D So, General Kay is going to let me out of the special pink padded room once in a while, but for now I'll probably watch you guys from the little fuschia barred window and concentrate on my recovery.

Thanks! I really appreciate everyone's well wishes and love. It's a huge deal to me, that you guys care. I keep saying that KT and her space cadets are a form of social support to me, something the folks at the looney bin kind of brush off -- but it's real. I can't thank you guys enough.

So today marks the first day in a long time that I've felt stable and capable. Yesterday was so bad that I went in to the psychiatrists walk-in clinic, something I never do. My Quack arranged to see me when another person failed to show up for their appointment, and I started to try to tell her what was going on. I couldn't. It felt like my brain was burning up and I couldn't for the life of me sit still. I was shaking, pacing back and forth, thoughts racing and yet could not settle down. Moving didn't alleviate the restlessness, and my brain had the same problem. I couldn't settle it down. I was trying to dig out of a deep dirt hole and only ended up digging deeper.

Quack lady (I love this woman) immediately said "You've got classic akathesia there, honey". Huh? Oh. Damn.

Check out this Wiki on akathesia. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akathisia) It's like firey torture in the fiber of your being.

The antipsychotic the doctors at the hospital put me on was causing it. Helluva side effect, huh? The anti-crazy pills were driving me bug-fuck crazy, creating an uptick in the very psychosis it was supposed to be treating. Since I'm on the highest dose it was a doozy of a case of agitation. I wanted to flush the pills. However, Quack Lady had another idea. She said almost all of that class of meds create akathesia in most people, so instead of dropping the med, we treat that symptom and let the antipsychotic do its work. I was doubtful, and hopeful at the same time. Last night I started the new meds that would calm my agitated ass.

Today, I have myself back. That fast. Holy shit. I feel like I can function, like I'm back in reality.

Akathesia seems to be one of the nastier side effects. If I recall correctly I had to take Varaj to the medical hospital after a bad side effect that started off with nasty Akathesia. I hope I never have to experience it. I"m enough of a pacer and fidgeter by nature I don't want to think about what I would be like if you chemically induced that in me. :grey:
