I know ostensibly many of the refugees who ended up here came from boards that had more of a gaming side to them.
I was just curious how the demographic here differs from prior message boards from various owners.
I, for example, would consider myself a gamer, even though I haven't gamed regularly for some time, I'm in the process of starting one. Right now that's all I'm playing, D&D 3/3.5
What about you? Feel free to include your online/mmorpgs/chess clubs/etc. :D
Right now I'm playing in a Mutants and Masterminds game run by Schizm, and laying down plans for a 3.5/Iron Heroes/Arcana Unearthed blender game to unfold in about a month or two.
Other games in the past:
Shadowrun (3rd and 4th ed), Star Wars (d20 version and West End Games versions--- I like the WEG port better), D20 Modern/Future, Ars Magica (4th and 5th ed), V:tR and V:tM, a bit of base WoD stuff, Toon, Paranoia, and 7th Sea.
I'm a hardcore gamer, given the time and resources... though my habits now run more to hardcore game collector/game design deconstructionist and casual gamer.

I don't roleplay anymore (well, I'd be open to the idea, but it's been a long time since I played last), but I play board games frequently.

I run a starwars SAGA game. I will be involved in a Hero game that will start in March. I sometimes play settlers of catan and a few other boardgames.

I run an Eberron (3.5e) game with a buncha engineers.
I play a bastardized 3.5e Planescape game online with some old friends.
I'm planning on starting a new game when I move to SF with some friends up there who are noobs to the whole D&D thing.

I play in a bi-weekly Castles & Crusades game. The game evolved from an older campaign that's been going on for years under different DMs, all run in D&D3.5. I've also recently joined an Aces & Eights game that runs weekends opposite my regular group.
The current DM and I have also been tossing around ideas for a Pulp Sci-Fi sorta game, but we can't find a suitable system.

Gaming, the intertubes and porn are all of Teh Devil!
If was was not a God fearing Christian I would play D&D once a week and MMORPG with my friends multiple times a week.

D20 Future may work. It's a pretty decent system, all things considered.

D20 Modern is what I keep turning to among the systems I've considered, but the DM is kind of burnt on D20 period. I almost am, but would still like to give this a shot in D20. The systems we've already looked at and abandoned are:
Savage Worlds
Rifts
GURPS
Traveller
True20
Gamma World/Alternity
Darwin's World
Star Frontiers
Serenity
Star Wars D20
and others....
Systems still in the running include Dawning Star, Amazing Engine, Star Wars D6, and the SIEGE Engine.
Basically, we want something with the simplicity of SIEGE that can handle "cinematic" action, generic character classes and star ships. The fluff and flavor are going to come from elsewhere - probably a lot of Rifts with a dash of Serenity.
[Edit - The DM has got a long history of running some of the above systems. He's just, as I stated, burned out on them.]

Only gaming I now do is video gaming.
Been getting the itch to re-up my WoW account actually.
If you're burnt out on d20, I'd recommend Star Wars d6. Just be careful not to let the PC's get too out of hand with the stats, because it tends to break down after a while.
Great for modeling just about anything, though. And, it's very simple to run. Roll dice, add numbers. Match or beat a target DC. That's all she wrote!

I wish I did. I gots no group, and not enough interest to try and find a decent one.
D&D, GURPS, SR, Conan D20, WFRP, WoD, Star Wars are all sitting around doing nothing...
...And most of those span multiple editions.

I still game. I'm in a group of friends that in theory get together every Wednesday (though some weeks real life gets in the way), with some of us occasionally gaming on weekends as well. Currently we have three D&D campaigns running. I run Eyes of the Lich Queen (Eberron mini-campaign), another guy runs City of the Spider Queen, and a third runs his own FR-based campaign.

Then why the hell did you bump Savage Worlds? IMO it should fill all your stated needs pretty damn nicely. (I played it alot in different settings and love it.) But maybe there was something that irked you that you have not mentioned here?
You can even get this: http://home.mchsi.com/~savagestarwars/savagestarwars.pdf for free... :)
Any way... oohhh... so manny topics in one thread I don't know where to start... I'll go chronological:
1. DD4 - People whine and argue on the internet about anything. Strange as it may seem, sometimes the less important something is to the world at large, the more furious the arguing about it on the internet. Anyway here's my take on what's been released so far, in terms of info:
1a. - We don't have all the pieces yet. Since I don't have the complete game, I feel any assumptions I make can still be proven wrong for good or bad. There's simply no way right now to "know" for sure. BUt I can feel...
1b. - When I read the designersd notes, most of the time I like what I read. I feel like I agree with the maladies they are trying to cure, and I find myself thinking, "Well.... at least they have recognised the same problem with the game as I have."
1c. - When it comes to the "cure" itself I think it's still hard to say for sure. Most of the time the acctual solution is only hinted at or brushed over broadly and in too general terms to actually be able to get a feel for the validity of the cure.
1d. - Then there's part of the things I don't like or agree with. Usually these are items not related to mechanics but rather things like, removing a race or adding a new one. Stuff like that. Setting based things if you will. Looks like my taste for setting is pretty far off from what they are trying to build right now. But hey... I was never one for Greyhawk either so...
2. Games I play - Jesus Christ... I've been playing one form of RPG or another since late 70's early 80's... There are few systems I have not at least read through. BUt over the years there are some that keep returning to my gaming table and we keep having fun with them.
Rune Qest, Call o Cthulhu, DnD, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Pendragon, Traveller
Of late we have ventured into Indie rpgs and reveled in:
Burning Wheel, Burning Empire, Prime Time Adventures, Savage Worlds, Psychosis, Noumenon
Some of them were good (Burning Wheel), other pretty crap (Noumenon).

Edited: I just realized I must have pressed the "next thread" by misstake cause I thought this thread was a continuation of "4th Ed: The End is Nigh" thread... sorry.

MMORPGs - Eve and FFXI several nights a week.
D&D 3.5 1x a week when the DM has time. He has brand new twins right now.
Mutants and Masterminds - just started a game. Year is 1900 power level 5. Should be interesting.

PNP:
I run 2 M&M games (background here (http://www.kaytastrophe.com/vb/showthread.php?t=2025)) Every week.
I play in another semi-regular (every other week-ish) M&M game, a semi-regular D&D game, and an extremely sporadic WoD 2 blender game.
Computer:
I'm a WoWtard. I've got waay too much time invested into this game, and the only way I console myself is with the knowledge that I've been subscribed to it longer, yet have fewer hours played than I did with EQ.

Once upon a time I was a gamer, esp. d20, but I haven't touched a dice in well over a year. For one thing, it's too hard to find people who like playing the way I like to play. For another thing, I just grew too dissatisfied with the RPG mediums I've enountered.
About the only game I play is solitaire.

As you probably know, there's hardly any system/mechanical difference between them, but we use the 1st edition mostly for how much the stats and powers mesh with the pre-Crisis DC universe, supplemented with some choice bits of errata/detail from the later editions.I've got a well-taped re-covered copy sitting on my bookshelf behind me, I just can't find a group interested in a comics type supers game any more. I even bought M&M in hopes of someone trying to run it, but to no avail. I've been in some great supers games but none of them were really comic book style. :)

Closed up a three-year-old OD&D campaign in December after starting a C&C/Grey Box FR game, which has been an awful lot of fun...
Hey, I thought Lisa and I were the only ones here playing C&C [and Dekster, too]. Glad to hear someone else is enjoying it as well.

I play D&D twice a week like clockwork, and have an on-again, off-again game going with some buddies that rotates games on an on going basis. I also play video games throughout the week and occasionally host or play in LAN parties.

Weekly Savage Worlds game - playing in the RunePunk (http://realityblurs.com/runepunk/) universe. Love it to pieces. My Ferren GearHawk just hit Veteran status after being near death many times, the combat system is so much better than a simple attrition based D&D combat. Ferren are a kind of rat-people, write up is here (http://www.realityblurs.com/runepunk/resources/ferren.pdf).

Well since 4th ed was anounced, me and our other DM completely lost interest in 3.5. So meanwhile, I decided to buy Star Wars: Saga to quench our thirst until June.
Surprisingly, we're having a huge blast with it. Among others Yig and Freedom Canadian are in my game. We play every Wednesday, and I've got something huge cooked up for them tomorrow night.
Can't wait!

While I haven't gamed in ages, I still consider myself a gamer. I still buy gaming books and enjoy reading them. I just picked up some new ones on Saturday in fact.
I started in 1978 and my collection covers 60' of shelf space. :)
My preference is 3.5 D&D. Though I also enjoy Gamma World and I would like to try M&M.

Then why the hell did you bump Savage Worlds?
Inches. In Savage Worlds combat is measured on a grid, in inches. The DM sees it as too mini-centric. Too much like 3.x in regards to actions, combat, etc, in that it presumes you are using miniatures. We game with miniatures some days, some days we don't. But when we do use them, they are only illustrations of our characters. We don't use them to represent our moves and actions. Even when we bring them out, we hardly ever remember to move them.
That's the DM's gripe. I'm not sure he even read the entire book. My problem is that it's basically D&D 3.x. Changed around in some places. Feats become "Edges" and such. But it looks a whole helluva lot like 3.x to me. And that's what we no longer what to play. Pretty much ever.
Have you considered M&M?
No. See my comments above.
Fwiw, since this seems to intrigue some folks, Brutorz Bill, the DM I'm referring to in all of this, is currently looking hard at a very hybridized version of Rifts. Chunks of rules disallowed or removed, many others changed and simplified as best as they can be.

Currently working on a module for NWN. Kind of a spin off of a Ground Hogs day adventure that me and a two friends attempted several years back. I haven't played anything for atleast 3 years.
Played Modern, D&D 3.5, some Omega World. I think that was all.
Currently playing an online game Rise of Terror. Nice php based webgame.
