1. I believe it was a big-ass horse. Like, a big fancy war horse. Definately not a sloth.

Correct!
The destrier's name was derived from the Latin word for "right," because it was led by the right hand before it was ridden. And it's not a sloth.
3) They sent the man on a paid trip to a city called Mars, in some eastern state I think.

They initially tried discouraging him with the message "If a trip to Mars you ear, remember friends there's no return." When he persisted, they sent him, his wife, and 12 children tickets to a small town in Germany named Moers - but pronounced Mars.
