View Full Version : New Post icon problems?

Is anyone having problems with the New Posts icon displaying when appropriate? Having read all threads in a forum, I go back to the index and refresh the page, yet the New Posts icon still shows to the left so I want to know if it's me or if I'm not the only one.

You have to hit the "mark all forums read" button. Then it'll clear.

Well yeah, but by the time I make it from top forum to bottom there are new posts in the top forums again and Mark Forums Read means I'll miss 'em. For me, this is important because I have to do ye olde moderation thing.

What I'm talking about is reading all threads in a forum, backing out, hitting refresh and the little (in Study Hall) green or (in So Sexy It Hurts) pink button is still fucking there. I go back in, don't read a thing, back out and refresh again and it goes brown/black. Very frustrating, and obviously a bug or problem with my machine.

Anyone else?

That makes sense. And no it's not just your machine. Mine is doing it as well. Maybe your hubby can get rid of the new post notification until the bug is worked out, if it's that annoying. :p

Well, Varaj to the rescue again. He says he has changed a setting that should fix it, so if anyone still experiences this, post it here please!

You may need to mark all forums read to go over to the new system.

That seems to be working for me now which is cool!

As another question, is there a way to just go to the new posts in a thread since I last read it? Currently I either have to go to the start again & wade my way through, or click on the arrow next to the last posters name & wade my way back... This just may be because I am lame & missing some button/setting that I should be using, but I'm not used to this board style...
Sorry!

On a related topic, am I the only one who liked the "new posts indicator" in the "Welcome, Member" area? You know:

Welcome, Helga.

There are (that many) new posts (http://www.kaytastrophe.com/vb/search.php?do=getnew).
Private Messages (http://www.kaytastrophe.com/vb/private.php): Unread 0, Total 1.
You have no new reputation comments.

It was on early, but disappeared soon after, so I guess it displeased The Management. But if it's not too much of a bother to do so, I'd appreciate if it was back as an option. :)

Changing the way Marked Read works broke the New Posts link, but once it stopped refreshing the link was useless anyway. You had to hard Mark Forums Read to get an accurate count in any session.

I'm sorry, but that option is an all or nothing thing, and at this time I don't have any plans to plonk that code back into place. :)

Oh, so it falls into the "too much of a bother" category. Well, no problem then. :)

Naw, more like "not gonna pop code in there that doesn't work properly". :D
