'Goddess' comes back down to earth

Wasn't sure if this story would fit in here or not, but it was pretty interesting to see how different cultures choose to revere a child's disability (of a certain sort mind you) rather than treating her as a freak.

Mind you, the parents did choose to give her surgery to correct the condition, but it seemed to be necessary to give her a decent life.

The many in the village tried to prevent the surgery, even though it would mean the girl would die a slow painful death. I guess worshiping their goddess didn't include kindness for children.
