I thought I'd share. These are taken from my balcony and from approximately a mile away. Our apartment is going through voluntary evacuation as we speak. Unfortunately, my camera takes shitty night photos. The fire is gorgeous though.

The fire is on two sides of us, and has only crossed one of the two hill tops. This is the other hilltop. The light in the lower-middle portion is a rescue vehicle.

Damn.

Thanks for the pictures, Janos. I guess I must assume you are taking precautions.

Yup, no worries on that front. We're packed and ready and I've been through fire drills before. I'm just enjoing the beautiful scenary. I wish Best Buy was still open, I'd buy a new digital camera for some better photos.

Live feed is here: http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=special_coverage&id=3654457

There are four or five fires going, but they flash back to the Irvine one every minute or two.

Gorgeous stuff but...

I really, really hope your places doesn't burn down, and that you (or anyone else) doesn't get hurt!

I agree that those are some great pictures.

I just hope that you do not have to leave your house. Remember to pack your pictures and stuff just in case. Keep us updated.

Fire is 30% contained and it's raining ash. Total damage was 8700 acres of land, but no property damage reported yet by some small miracle.

Some more fire fun. First photo is a map of the fire area as of 8 am. The red dot is our apartment complex. We can see it on the other side of the road. Our apartment is the one in the background with the guy in the red shirt with the black hat on.

Photos all from the OC Register.

This last one was taken at 11:00 am about 5 miles from the fire by John Wayne Airport.

So did you evacuate in the end? That seems really close to be wanting to stick around, even if it did get put out in time!

I hope that you are evacuating as well. Be safe and do not stay.

We haven't evacuated just yet. The fire has moved a good distance from us but is still in the area.

Thanks all! Fire is still raging, but a good mile and a half from us now. Unfortunately its getting some houses (they've managed to save almost all the houses up till this point). And politics are starting to really complicate things. The fire has torched about 20k acres so far and the smoke is so thick that you can only see about 10 ft. ahead. The winds are quiet for the moment, which is helping a lot, but the wind warnings go through tomorrow after noon.
