Damn good, awesomely damn good.

My god it was sweet.

BA and I bought a chocolate doughnut and a jam berliner from our local bakery. Baked fresh, fluffy, sweet, gorgeous things. We had half of each, each.

I am in sugar heaven, fresh-this-morning-baked-goods from your local cannot be beaten.

You may commence the Jealousness.

You may commence the Jealousness.

No can do. My store fries up the best doughnuts I've ever eaten. Period. And I always a a fresh supply.

When Albertson's was in it's last days around here, they got Krispy Kreme franchises for all our stores. And that was good. I was happy. I grew up on Krispy Kremes, every single Sunday morning my family had them fresh for breakfast before church. With some bacon. Yum.

But unfortunately for my store, Krispy Kreme is not Kosher. It took us some time, the store manager, the bakery manager and I, to get rid of that franchise. It, well, disenfranchised a third of our customers. And we replaced them with our own equipment, our own ingredients, and special recipes, all approved by the Vaad of Memphis, and cooked up every morning by a girl I hired, Della.

They are the most devilish doughnuts imaginable, and they are the best I've ever had. Completely unique in this city, as none of our other stores make them the way we do.

The secret to making a good doughnut, I've discovered, and it runs counter to the Krispy Kreme ways I grew up with, is to go relatively easy on the sugar (relatively, I said), and heavy on the grease. Very heavy. It's the fat content that makes a doughnut special, and ours are very special. :)

And yeah, I don't eat them every day. I keep myself fit and trim. But when I do eat one, I want it to be the best it can be, one doughnut that will fill me up and satisfy me, and not a whole box.

[Added: And Virginia in the Meat Department fries me up some wonderfully crispy bacon every Sunday morning. :) ]

Oh that does sound damn good.

Actually, I've had krispy kreme a few times... and while they're not bad, they can be far too sweet. I think Aussie donuts are probably more up your alley.

Unfortunately my sugar high lasted only half an hour, which I wasted watching Dr phil, and wanting to hit dumb people.
