What's your favorite type of restaurant food, and what dishes are your favorites there?
Chinese and Mexican for me, with Chinese winning by a slim margin. Italian trailing behind those two closely.
General Tso or combo lo mein
chimichangas
fettuccine alfredo

Middle eastern, mediteranian, mexican and asiatic.
Korean is my favorite with Lebonese trailing right behind it... if I could find a Lebanese-Korean chick who could cook both well I'd leave my wife and kids for her.
Thai, Greek, Italian and Mexican are right behind them.
Cajun/ Creole, Chinese, soul/ country, Mexican, Itialian
Not a fan of the French style

Man I have trouble narrowing it down...
Thai, Italian, Mexican, Japanese, Greek... they're all good, which is why I had trouble picking just one meal to eat for the rest of my life in an earlier thread...
Pud Thai or Drunken noodles would have to be up there in favourite meals. Also Penne Napolitana, nachos, sushi and steak come very close, hence the difficulty in choosing! I like variety!

I would definitely have to say you're into your napolitana sauce oh yeah.
But it's not chicken. :)

I love Italian food, but I'd just as soon not get it in a restaurant, because I make it better than they do.
I love Japanese food, especially Unagi and Salmon Skin sushi rolls, but I also like sashimi and many other Japanese dishes.
Greek
Thai
Mexican
Those round out my list. Indian is ok, but it would never be my first choice. Creole/Cajun? Meh.

I didn't realize that was unique to this country.

Maybe it isn't, but I haven't eaten anything quite like it elsewhere.

I think it's the fat content in the meat that does it...

Doesn’t the fat burn off on the bbq?

I think it mostly just melts in. Kinda like a piece of bread soaking up olive oil.

It burns off, but it leaves a delicious trace of itself behind. :D

It's not that kind of barbeque. In Aussieland, we think of BBQ as grilling something on a gas barbie... It's more like cooking/smoking stuff real slow over a long period, the fat doesn't really drip off and run through the grill.
Although I daresay there is a helluvalot of grease running around.
You get these restaurants in the US that serve massive hunks/plates of meat - by the pound - the meat is super juicy (read: fatty) and it's kinda smoked and also cooked with some kind of marinadey stuff too - so what you get is these really tender pieces of meat, that sort of fall apart and taste great.
Then you typically also get given a tub of the BBQ sauce (every restaurant has it's own world famous brand) which is (from what I can tell) basically pure sugar with some brown added, and that is poured over it all. You eat it with cornbread, or massive fistfulls of white bread and pickles, onion, mustard.
It's fucking good. Actually I ordered a lot of smoked turkey by the pound (instead of brisket) lat time I was in the US, I lived on it. It wouldn't have been too unhealthy if it wasn't for the sauce, and the sheer quantity. muahahahah.
So yeah, I haven't seen a US style BBQ place in Oz. I am not sure they would do that well to be honest. Who knows, I might be wrong.

Greasy meaty man-food yumminess talk
Actually it depends on what you bbq. My dad has become a fanatic since he retired and build a nice big brick bbq in the backyard and bought a smoker and a rib rack and god knows what else. He is out there with something at least 3 times a month. He does the typical chicken, beef, ribs (beef and pork) but he's also done a fabulous smoked turkey, and does prawns and fish if my mom or I bring it out. My mom makes several different sauces only one of which has a high sugar content.
Oh something great to try on the grill, fresh firm pear halves with goat cheese. I know it sounds strange but it's super good!

Greek and Italian are my overwhelming favorites. The local cuisine of Eastern NC is a close contender, and then everything else falls below that. There are very few types of cuisine I don't like, and I get a hankerin for most of them once in awhile. A few weeks ago I really wanted some German food, so we cooked up some.
