I'm actually still looking forward to seeing this even though any news of it's been drowned out by 4E. Since it's due in a few weeks has anyone heard anything more concrete about it? I haven't been able to find anything more than the blurb on the Wizard's product page.

Tired of hauling all of your D&D rules supplements to the gaming table? Having trouble finding the rule you need? The Rules Compendium supplement takes all of the game's most important rules and presents them in a single comprehensive, easy-to-reference volume for players and Dungeon Masters. In addition to presenting the rules of the game, the Rules Compendium incorporates official errata as well as behind-the-scenes designer and developer commentary explaining how the rules system has evolved and why certain rules work the way they do.
CHRIS SIMS is an associate editor who works in Roleplaying Games R&D at Wizards of the Coast, Inc. His previous design credits include the Secrets of Sarlona supplement for the Eberron campaign setting.

Not much. There was a Q&A thread about it on the WotC boards, and they said that it will contain some of the expanded rules from the Complete and Environment series, but nothing really meaty on what specifically.

Do you think this will include the core book rules ?
It might be a tryout to test a way to lay out rules for 4E, see if people like it.

It sounds like an SRD like product that outlines everything past character creation in a reference format.

In that case, I definitely vote "4E tryout". Not that there's anything bad with that.

No. I doubt very much it'll contain anything from the core rule books. The page count is way too low (160 pp). My guess is it'll contain material from the various splat books, environment books, and other ancillary titles.

Well, we've finally got some real information about this thing.

Must be rough trying to sell a compiled compendium of all the rules you just made obsolete. Seems like a silly marketing strategy.

I'm still interested. 3e may still be worth playing after the release of 4e, depending on how the new edition suits one's tastes.
I have to say I was dead wrong when I said this book wouldn't contain rules from the core books. I'm really interested in seeing what rules they put in this thing and how they do it in just 160 pages.

From what I've heard is that the "test" is the SAGA rules. Over at Enworld one of the playtesters said the rough draft of the rules in the PHB are done being playtested for the printing of the book next year.

It'll probably be the last 3E book I ever buy but it sounds pretty interesting to me. And I may still be playing 3E anyway since our group may stick with it for awhile.

What are you talking about?
Haven't seen it yet, Waldenbooks aren't ordering any new DnD source books it seems, least the one here isn't

I was wondering the same thing. My guess: he's unaware that the Rules Compendium is a 3e book, not a 4e book. The Star Wars SAGA edition was apparently a test-bed for 4e, and he's saying he heard that game was where the bulk of playtesting for 4e was done, and that no further playtesting will be done.
First, I have no idea what the hell all that has to do with this thread.
Second, 4e is still being playtested as this is written. That's pretty much been confirmed. Check EN World for more info, 'cuz they're up-to-the-minute on that stuff.

I don't even think it's been released yet.

I can confirm that as well. Half my current gaming group just got their test kits last week.

If they say anything I'll definately repeat it. Unfortunately, knowing them, they won't, just to drive me nuts.
