Some of the local gamers have a 40k table-top league going. In which we
are able to field our own versions of sub-factions like chapters, craftworlds,
septs, etcetera. I am working on a (as the title states) loyal space marine
chapter.
Here is what I have so far:
The schtick is that the chapter and it's home world was lost in the warp for
quite some time and has recently (300 years prior) come back out into
"realspace". The chapter was getting started and was still in it's early stages
when the warp claimed their home world. The chapter was commissioned as
a "siege and counter siege" legion, much like the Iron Hands. The team of
Ad-Mech that was installing the needed technology for a chapter fortress
were not able to escape and had to ride it out with their Astartes cohorts.
This helped the chapter greatly in adapting to the new and terrible situation
they were all in.
They have two difficulties and two advantages.
Difficulties:>
"Forbidden Knowledge"
All chapter Librarians are under house/planet arrest due to the twisted and
prophetic visions they suffered during their time in the warp. They are only
able to communicate through purpose built servitors. These have had very
specific restrictions programmed into them as to what the may relay.
All other access by anyone is forbidden by the High Lords of Terra.
"A Broken Chapter"
The chapter has lost the following enhancements for it's battle brothers:
-Betcher's Gland
-Melanchromic Organ
-Mucranoid
-Black Carapace
The last is quite a problem as it is required for the interface with space marine
powered armor. Addressed in "Advantages".
Advantages:>
"Chaos Tested"
The chapter has been through what some would call 'Hell' and survived to tell
of it. Their membership has had to hold the line in situations and against
foes that many have fallen insane or gutted to. Their methodology to resist
the warp is an improvised use of Geller field technology and techniques that
help develop mental hardening against illusion and insidious influence.
"Iron Men"
To counter the loss of the Black Carapace, the chapter's techmarines and
apothicaries built an artificial replacement that is essentially a customized
version of the Ad-Mech/techmarine's "Mind Impulse Unit" implant.
It covers the the spine in a series of segmented metal plates and also has
sockets that are mounted to the ribcage to allow for needed life support
connections with Astartes powered armor. This design was refitted from
old Ad-Mech Skitarii trooper designs and Dreadnought interment preparations.
The side benefit of this new connection method is that it gives the chapter's
marines the ability to communicate more like their techmarine brothren.
Especially in the use of commanding servitors and simple machines.
(See: Order of Battle)
I will add more later.
