New House Indecency Bill Introduced

September 19, 2007

The "Protecting Children From Indecent Programming Act" has been introduced into the House of Representatives, the latest legislation aimed at fighting indecency. The bill would require the FCC to take action against a broadcaster for any single offending word or image.

The act is co-sponsored by Reps. Chip Pickering (R-MS), Jim Matheson (D-UT), Mike McIntyre (D-NC) and Joseph Pitts (R-PA). A similar bill with the same name was introduced to the Senate by Sen. John D. Rockefeller (D-WV) back in July.

"As the father of five sons, I have a vested interest in what broadcasters present over the public airwaves. We do not want our children to grow up with the mindset that certain behavior and language is ok," Pickering said in a statement. "I speak for our families in Mississippi, as well as across the country - we deserve a peace of mind when watching television with our family and expect a level of decency in our programming."

"There is no reason to allow broadcast networks a free pass as long as ‘not too much’ profanity makes it on the airwaves. We passed legislation to keep profanity from the airwaves because parents do not want their children to see any profane images or hear any indecent language. Families should have a reasonable expectation to believe television broadcast over public airwaves will not contain indecent material, not even once," added Pitts.

"Families have had it with inappropriate scenes and language that shock and confuse their children. This legislation gives them the tools they need to help maintain the home environment families want and deserve," said Matheson.

I am soooo tired of this shit.

US attorney 'sought sex with five-year-old girl'

Attorney arrested for seeking sex with girl, 5
Busted in internet conversations with cop
Faces 40 years in prison
AN assistant US attorney from Florida has been arrested for allegedly flying to Michigan to have sex with a five-year-old girl.

John D.R. Atchison, 53, was arrested after he participated in internet conversatons with a detective posing as a mother who was interested in letting men have sex with her young daughter, Associated Press reported.

According to court documents, Atchison initiated the online chat on August 29. His correspondence with the detective lasted several weeks.

At one point, Atchison allegedly said: "I'm always gentle and loving; not to worry; no damage ever; no rough stuff ever ever".

He has been charged with using interstate communication to entice a minor to have sexual contact, and travelling across state lines with the intent of engaging in illicit sexual contact. If convicted of both charges, he faces up to 40 years in prison, Associated Press reported.

"There wasn't much reaction from him at all," Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel said.

"He was cooperative with authorities".

Yep, Most Democrats downfall is from money and Republicians from sex.

I'd say both republicans and democrats are statistically about as dirty on both counts... but republicans make pretenses at the moral high ground and get burned when they reveal their foibles, while democrats pretend they're in it for ideals and get caught with their hands in the cookie jar.

So both sides are morally bankrupt and reprehensible, it's just that different failings stick harder to each side. Nobody blinks at a money-laundering republican, and people just shrug at a horndog democrat.

Sex and money are both side of the coin of power... they ALL fall from playing with the power they worked so hard to earn.

Most of them start out alright but after 20+ years of giving a little here and there to get stuff done they no longer have a shred of integrity.

Unless he's the president, then he's impeached and called the worst ever president by some (unfortunately those "some" tend to find Ronald "demencia man" Reagan to be the best modern president)

US censorship is so fucked up it's untrue. This law would just be honest about it being censorship, rather than "voluntary" codes or certification, that folks have to follow to stand a hope of getting airtime.

Show someone shooting someone else and it's PG-13 (so long as there is no blood).

Show someone shooting someone and them dying a painful death with blood pouring from the wound and it's R.

Seriously what does this teach kids about how guns work?

Show a hint of pubic hair or couple enjoy an perfectly natural sex act and it's R or NC-17.

Sure, sure, clean up television. We'll always have the internet. Go Youtube!!!It's a slippery slope. let them control TV and next they'll want to pass an internet decency act, requiring ISP's to filter content.

They are already censoring video games. (The ESRB amounts to a censorship system that the industry voluntarily imposed on itself, for fear that the government would censor video games if they didn't. For evidence, see Manhunt 2.)

If you don't believe that the US government would ever censor the internet, where have you been living????
